Rotary Four-Way Speech Contest

Hemet Sunrise Rotary and Hemet Unified School District (HUSD) joined together to present the Four-Way Speech Contest. High school students from HUSD participated in a speech contest held at the district office on April 14, 2016.

A total of 13 students gave speeches on topics that were important to them. The speeches ranged from addiction to technology to The American Revolution, while answering The Rotary Four-Way Test, which asks: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? And will it be beneficial to all concerned? Throughout their speeches, students were critiqued on their content, delivery, Four-Way Test, and total impact.

Three students were recognized for their exemplary speeches. First place and a $200 check was awarded to Yvette Relles Powell, a senior at West Valley High School who spoke of the importance of prayer. Second place and $100 went to Carson McGlothlen, Hemet High School, who spoke about the leadership skills she gained from joining Future Farmers of America (FFA). Third place and $50 went to Amanda Manangan, Hemet High, who discussed societal issues on school campuses.

Thank you to Hemet Sunrise Rotary for recognizing our students. Thank you to Dr. Jinane Annous, Derek Jindra, and Stephen Mack for judging. A big congratulations to our three winners and the students who participated in this year’s contest.
